Vilamoura, Portugal – November 14, 2021 – Nicola Pohl (GER) and Exelero 2 powered towards victory in the €95,000 Grand Prix CSI 4* on Sunday during the fifth week of the 2021 Vilamoura Champions Tour at the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre.
A total of 51 rider-and-horse combinations lined up to face the 1.50m challenge with only five of them advancing to the jump-off. Pohl’s strategy of opting to play it safe for a clean performance helped her and the 2008 chestnut Oldenburg stallion (Chacco-Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) come out on top despite the duo’s time of 47.55 seconds being slower than all of the other finalists.
The winner of the Grand Prix CSI 3* last week, Andreas Schou (DEN) had another podium finish. This time the Danish rider registered the fastest time among all those who participated in the tiebreaker, guiding Darc de Lux (Darco x Contender) towards silver honors after having four penalty-points in 37.85 seconds during the tiebreaker.
Michael Pender (IRL) and HHS Fast Forward (Fortunus x Cavalier Royale) rounded out the top three with the same score as the latter two, doing so in 38.69 seconds.
