Doha, Qatar – Friday, February 28, 2020 – Excitement and action combined to keep fans on the edge of their seats on the second day of Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines, in the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab.
The international equestrian event, which Al Shaqab is organizing for the seventh time, sees 88 riders from 23 countries competing in the Olympic disciplines of showjumping, dressage, and para dressage. The final day of the competiton takes place tomorrow.
Julian Epaillard (FRA) & Virtuose Champeix
Julian Epaillard (FRA) and Virtuose Champeix put another masterful round to finish first in the €148,300 Jump-off Class CSI 5*. The “Flying Frenchman and the 11-year-old chestnut Selle Français stallion (Rubins des Bruyeres x Avec Espoir) cleared the obstacles set at the height of 1.55m/1.60m throughout their two performances, securing the victory in 33.41 seconds during the tiebreaker.
This was the third victory in two days for the Frenchman, after his double triumph on Thursday.
Max Kuhner (AUT) & Elektric Blue P
Max Kuhner (AUT) and Elektric Blue P (Eldorado v.D. Zeshoek x For Pleasure) were right on the heels of the eventual winners, finishing second only four-tenths of a second behind the winners.
Scott Brash (GBR) and riding Hello Shelby
Scott Brash (GBR) and riding Hello Shelby (Stolzenberg x For Pleasure) completed the podium with no penalties and a jump-off time of 34.11 seconds.
