Basel, Switzerland – January 13, 2024 – Yuri Mansur`s (BRA) Vitiki continuous to defy the odds and amaze the world! After a freak accident in 2018 that almost required him to be euthanized, the 16-year-old chestnut Hanoverian gelding (Valentino x For Expo) had seven screws inserted in one of his legs. To make sure, the gelding was rehabilitated, coming back to the top of the sport and to another of many victories thereafter. Last Saturday another glorious chapter was written as their fairytale became even more unbelievable as the dynamic duo teamed up for victory in the €75,000 Championat City of Basel CSI 5*-W for the “Golden Drum”.
The duo were fast enough to put pressure on Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Looping Luna, causing the latter pair to have one rail down despite being nine hundredths of a second towards a fourth-place finish.
Second place was claimed by Denis Lynch (IRL), who chose a much more conservative approach on Dark Chocolate 48 (Casall x Acodetto). The strategy paid off as they were clean again, completing their second performance in 37.48 seconds.
Pieter Devos (BEL) and Casual DV Z (Cornet Obolensky x Cicero Z) conquered third place backed by a second fault-free performance too, completing the jump-off in 37.56 seconds.
