Quarteira, Faro, Portugal – October 14, 2022 – A Portuguese victory on home soil! Hugo Carvalho (POR) and Exception were at their very best to win the €25,500 Jump-off Challenge CSI 3* on Friday during the first week of the VillaMoura Champions Tour at the VillaMoura Equestrian Centre.
The Portuguese rider and the 2013 grey Westphalian gelding (Berlin x Landadel) triumphed despite not registering the fastest time in the tiebreaker. The duo were the faster of only two combinations, completing their second fault-free performance in 45.19 seconds.
Radovan Sillo (SVK) and Quadrosson Ask (Quadros 3 x Carentan) were the only other pair to leave all the poles up for no penalties, tripping the jump-off timers in 45.33 seconds.
Charlene Bastone (GBR) chose a conservative approach on Sanlou (Sandro Boy x Chacco-Blue) and the strategy paid off as the duo secured bronze honors despite having three time penalties due to their completion of the course in 56.81 seconds.
