Falsterbo, Sweden – July 16, 2022 – A duel between two combinations decided the outcome of the $912,000 Falsterbo Derby CSIO 5* at the Falsterbo Horse Show CSIO 5*. After all the first round performances on a demanding course designed by Frank Rothenberger (GER), a true test of power and stamina, only two combinations managed to clear all the 1.50m obstacles within the time allowed of 180 seconds.
As the third duo to go in the first round, Andre Thieme (GER) and Contadur proved that it was possible to register a clean scorecard. The task proved to be too much for many of those who followed. In fact, the German would have to wait almost until the end, as one of the last pairs was able to match his feat. Johnny Pals (NED) and Carlotta (Conthargos x Balou du Rouet) were the only ones to do so, thus securing a jump-off.
Despite facing a much shorter course, neither pair could reproduce a penalty-free performance in the tiebreaker with both of them having one pole down for a score of 4 penalty-points. Thieme was much more aggressive aboard the 14-year-old bay Oldenburg stallion (Conteros x Kolibi), securing the win in 49.82 seconds compared to Pal’s mark of 52.35 seconds with the 11-year-old bay Oldenburg mare (Conthargos x Balou du Rouet)
Five combinations had one pole down in the first round and a score of four penalty-points, however, Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) and Nikolaj de Music (Kannan x Nabab de Reve) were the fastest ones amongst them, earning bronze honors in 14.8.06 seconds.
