Grimaud, France – April 30, 2022 – Experience versus youth, Guy Williams (GBR) versus the young superstar Harry Charles (GBR), that’s what it came down to as two stars of the noble sport from Great Britain dueled it out at the Hubside Jumping de Grimaud CSI 5* & 2* on Saturday. In the end, the older rider prevailed, guiding Rouge de Ravel to the top in the €30,000 Hotel Font Mourier Prize CSI 5*.
Williams rode the 2005 bay Selle Français gelding (Ultimo Van Ter Moude x Quouglof Rouge) to victory in the special two-phase challenge, clearing all the 1.45m obstacles in both sections of the contest, securing the win in 31.99 seconds.
Despite his young age, Harry Charles (GBR) seemed to have inhereted the talent of his dad, the great Peter Charles (GBR), as the rising superstar continues to amaze at the highest level of the sport. Charles put in another great performance, this time finishing second aboard Billabong du Roumois (Mylord Carthago*HN x Papillon Rouge*Normandie) , just over three-tenths of a second slower thant his fellow countryman.
Six-hundredths of a second separated the second and third-place finishers. Robin Muhr (ISR) was a pleasant surprise on the podium. The Israeli equestrian beat many other great riders to conque the third spot with Baccarat Meniljean (Diamant de Semilly x Dollar du Murier), doing so 32.37 seconds.
Winner’s Circle – Guy Williams (GBR)
“Today Rouge is in his rightful place! It was not as fast as it can be sometimes but it is ahead of the others and there is nothing more to ask for! I am very happy of this victory. Harry is an excellent rider and today I just had a little more success. But he is young, he still has many years to beat me in races!”
