Philipp Weishaupt & Coros Claim the Crown of World Champions Amongst Six-Year-Olds!

Lanaken, Belgium – September 26, 2021 – Veni, vidi, vici! The famous statement by the Roman general Julius Caesar just inspired the German rider Philipp Weishaupt (GER) during a spectacular FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses final for the six-year-old horses. Weishaupt (GER) and his Westphalian-bred and approved stallion Coros 3, a son of Cornet Obolensky and Arpeggio who was bred by Werner Buschwieweke, were one of the eleven combinations that cleared the basic round and qualified for the jump-off.

In that jump-off they were allowed to take the lead and they did so in a masterly way. Weishaupt (GER) and Coros 3 immediately set a lot of pace, then kept the corners very short and just didn’t ride an inch too much in this perfectly ridden jump-off. It also resulted in a blistering finish time of 33.17 seconds, a time that no one else could come close to and which thus earned Weishaupt (GER) and Coros 3 the world title in the class for six-year-old horses.

“First is never an ideal starting position,” Weishaupt begins to explain. “I was only six-hundredths of a second slower than Richard Vogel at the Bundeschampionat for six-year-olds with Conos and I didn’t want to repeat that. So I made sure if anything we were fast! Conos jumps great anyway, but if he goes faster he seems to jump even better. And now we have gold instead of silver”, says the winner happily.

His compatriot Angelique Rüsen (GER) took silver with the Westphalian-bred stallion Crowny NW, a son of Crown Z and Pontiflex 9 who was bred by Norbert Wentrup and who is a half-brother of the Westfalen-approved stallion Comme Il Faut Plus. Christian Ahlmann’s stable rider entered the jump-off as the fifth starter and managed to set a time of 35.08 seconds on the scoreboard.

The bronze went to the Belgian lady rider Virginie Thonon (BEL) with the BWP-bred mare Parequita vh, a daughter of Jamal van de Heffinck and Cumano who was bred by Willem Hoecke and with whom Thonon was placed three more times at the beginning of this month during the show in Bonheiden. Thonon and Parequita v.h. came last in the jump-off and made an ultimate attempt to knock Weishaupt and Coros 3 off the throne. However, they finished in 35.14 seconds and ended up third.

The Irish Jason Foley (IRL) with the Zangersheide stallion Calvador Z (Comilfo Plus Z x Corrdino CH – B: Luc Van Hoof) and the Belgian Arnaud Gaublomme with the gelding Chica V.V. Z (Comme Il Faut x Chacco Blue – B: Evelyne Van Vreckom) complete the top of the standings in fourth and fifth place.
