Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – February 27, 2021 – The Swedish National anthem sounded out across the showground on Saturday, on the penultimate day of jumping of this second CSI 4*. The €26,500 Tio Pepe Jump-off Challenge CSI 4* was held on grass in the David Broome arena and the top two riders on the podium were Swedish.
After some brilliant riding, Douglas Lindelöw (SWE) and Angelie Von Essen (SWE) took took first and second places to give Sweden a one-two in a very competitive class with over 93 entries. The course was designed by Elena Boix (ESP) and features obstacles set at the height of 1.50m. A total of 11 combinations advanced to the jump-off round.
In the end, Lindelöw and the 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Chacco-Blue x Carthago Z) were supreme in the decisive phase, registering the fastest penalty-free performance, time in 38.30 seconds.
Angeline von Essen (SWE) and Cochella (Cartani 4 x Lord) were the closest ones, the only difference being their final time of 38.61 seconds. This pair are actually on the XXVII Sunshine Tour official poster.
Close on the heels of the latter two, Jack Whitaker (GBR) and Scenletha (Scendix x Contendra) finished only three-hundredths of a second off their final time, earning bronze honors.
Last Sunday, Douglas clearly demonstrated his talents when he came third in the Equine America Grand Prix class. He was clearly just warming up for this win, riding the very same gelding. Douglas Lindelöw commented that he thought it was: “hard, but this is how it should be when there are riders of such a high level here competing.”
“Casquo Blue, he is number one in my stables. He has been with me for eight years and he is now eleven. Together we have had some great results in very important competitions, including the World Cup. Douglas plans to participate in some Nations Cup rounds this season, “I hope to take part in the European Championships.”
