Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – December 19, 2020 – The Diriyah Equestrian Festival (DEF) came to an end last Saturday at the Al Duhami Farm in the Saudi capital and it was Philipp Weishaupt (GER) and Coby 8 who claimed top honors in the final FEI-class of the two-week event, taking home the lion’s share of the SAR $510,000 SAOC Grand Prix of Riyadh CSI 5*-W.
A total of 23 combinations entered the ring to face Uliano Vezzani’s (ITA) 1.60m course, with five of them advancing to the jump-off. After having won the $225,000 Saudi Ministry of Sport Prize CSI 4*-W the week before, the German once again teamed up with the 10-year-old bay Hanoverian gelding (Contagio x Escudo 9) for another win, this time backed by a penalty-free effort in 35.38 seconds during the tiebreaker.
Daniel Deusser (GER) and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Mr. Blue) were right on the heels of the eventual winners, finishing only six-hundredths of a second behind, a mark that would earn them silver honors.
Kevin Staut (FRA) and Tolede de Mescam Harcour (Mylord Carthago x Kougloff) were back on the podium again, rouding out the top three with no penalties in 36.47 seconds.
