San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico – September 27, 2020 – The first two weeks of competition during the Otomí Grand Prix came to a close in grand fashion last Saturday at the Club Hípico Otomí. Justice was served as Daniel Rihan Goyeneche (MEX) and Couleur Van Berkenbroek claimed top honors in the MXN $1,100,000 Gas Express Nieto Grand Prix CSI 2*.
It turns out that Daniel is a member of the Rihan family, who organize the event along with Eduardo Léon, and have also supported the sport in Mexico through several initiatives. Daniel has competed at high level and even represented Mexico in international competitions, including a third-place finish in the prestigious FEI Jumping Nations Cup of the United States of America CSIO 5*, held this year during the Palm Beach Masters Series at Deeridge Farms in Wellington, Florida, USA.
A total of 49 combinations participated in the 1.45m contest, with Daniel and the 14-year-old chestnut Zangersheide mare (Couleur Rubin x Carthago Z) besting 9 other pairs in the tiebreaker. The dynamic duo completed their second effort in 40.34 seconds to take home the lion’s share of the jackpot in prize money.
Alberto Sánchez Cozar (MEX) and Union de la Nutria (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan) also overcame all the obstacles they faced on the course during their two performances too, finishing second in 41.22 seconds.
Third place was conquered by Gonzalo Azcarraga Rivera (MEX) aboard Fabio (Van Gogh & Celano), registering a clean scorecard and a final time of 42.21 seconds.
