Aachen, Germany – September 05, 2020 – The equestrian sport fans know as soon as a jump-off is on the agenda: Things get exciting! And that is exactly what happened in the first jumping competition of the Big Tour at the Aachen International Jumping CSI 3*. Philipp Weishaupt (GER) accomplished the fastest clear round with Coby. He completed the course two seconds faster than Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Laura Kraut (USA).

What a star-studded, first jump-off at the Aachen International Jumping: Marcus Ehning (GER), Christian Ahlmann (GER), Scott Brash (GBR), Gregory Wathelet (BEL) – several Rolex Grand Prix winners were on board in the Deutsche Bank Stadium. The golden rosette ultimately went to the Rolex Grand Prix winner of 2016: Philipp Weishaupt (GER). This time he had saddled the ten-year-old gelding Coby, whom Weishaupt already steered to victory last year at the CHIO Aachen. “Coby” loves it here in Aachen. Whether the dressage arena or the jumping stadium,” his rider said with a grin. One could tell in the jump-off how much Coby loves Aachen. He flew round the course with Weishaupt in 37.67 seconds. His fellow competitors weren’t able to top his time.

Eric Lamaze (CAN) came the closest with Chacco Kid. The pair crossed the finish line in 39.39 seconds, which secured them second place. Laura Kraut (USA) and Confu were just a few fractions of a second slower (39.57 seconds). And after his victory in the opening jumping competition, Richard Vogel (GER) had reason to celebrate once again: His time of 39.58 seconds sufficed for fourth place.

Philipp Weishaupt (GER) is delighted that spectators are allowed to attend the shows again. “Even if only 300 spectators are allowed to be here, we riders really missed the crowd clapping after each ride. It is good for the soul.” And he has already devised a plan for the next two days of the show too: “To ideally win at least one more class.”

Wenn es in ein Stechen geht, dann wissen die Pferdesportfans: Jetzt wird es spannend! So auch beim ersten Springen der Large Tour beim Aachen International Jumping. Den schnellsten fehlerfreien Ritt legte Philipp Weishaupt mit Coby hin. Er siegte mit zwei Sekunden Vorsprung vor Eric Lamaze und Laura Kraut.

Was für ein starkbesetztes, erstes Stechen beim Aachen International Jumping: Marcus Ehning, Christian Ahlmann, Scott Brash, Gregory Whatelet – es waren auch einige Rolex Grand Prix-Sieger mit von der Partie im Deutsche Bank Stadion. Die goldene Schleife erhielt am Ende der Rolex Grand Prix-Sieger von 2016: Philipp Weishaupt (GER). Dieses Mal hat er den zehnjährigen Wallach „Coby“ gesattelt. Mit ihm war Weishaupt bereits letztes Jahr beim CHIO Aachen siegreich. „Coby liebt das hier in Aachen. Egal ob Dressur- oder Springstadion“, schmunzelte sein Reiter. Wie sehr „Coby“ Aachen liebt, konnte man im Stechen sehen. In 37,67 Sekunden flogen er und Weishaupt durch den Parours. Diese Zeit konnte die Konkurrenz nicht toppen.

Am nächsten dran war Eric Lamaze (CAN) mit „Chacco Kid“. Sie beendeten den Kurs in 39,39 Sekunden, was für den zweiten Rang reichte. Nur einen Wimpernschlag langsamer waren Laura Kraut (USA) und Confu (39,57 Sekunden). Und auch Richard Vogel (GER) kann sich nach seinem Sieg im Eröffnungsspringen erneut freuen: 39,58 Sekunden reichten für Platz vier.

Philipp Weishaupt ist froh, dass wieder Turniere vor Zuschauern stattfinden. „Auch wenn nur 300 Zuschauer hier sein dürfen, dass jemand nach dem Ritt klatscht, das hat uns Sportlern schon gefehlt. Es tut der Seele gut.“ Und einen Plan für die kommenden zwei Turniertage hat er auch schon gefasst: „Am besten noch einmal gewinnen.“
