According to the Counselor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Gijón City Council, José Ramón Tuero, the first positive was that of the son of a rider who attended a party outside the equestrian facilities and that it was known once that the affected had already returned to Madrid, and with the passing of the days another seven positives were detected in their environment.

It was an act of irresponsibility on the part of the boy “, said Tuero, who insisted that” at the moment none of the positives are in Asturias “but, after a meeting this morning with the General Directorate of Public Health of the Principality of Asturias, it was decided that the most appropriate thing was to cancel the contest scheduled between 27 and 30 of this month.

Tuero insisted that “in the contest the protocol was strictly adhered to” and also that Public Health was proposed some alternatives to save the contest, such as being done without an audience or by carrying out rapid tests, possibilities that were rejected.

For the same reason, the Spanish Championship of national-bred horses and stud farms that was going to be held at the end of September will not be held either.

For his part, the president of the Astur Equestrian Club, Jesús Kocina, wanted to make it clear that “the contagion is foreign to the club, although it was among people who attended the contest” and stressed that “there is no Asturian infected.

For Kocina the worst thing is not the economic damage but the image damage and he understands that the General Directorate of Public Health does not want to take risks.

From this body it was recommended to the Gijón City Council not to organize any event in which people from outside the region would come.

Gijón, España – 24 de Agosto de 2020 – El concurso internacional dos estrellas de hÍpica que se iba a celebrar este fin de semana del 27 al 30 de agosto en las instalaciones del Club Hípico Astur de Gijón ha sido cancelado tras la aparición de un brote con ocho positivos en el entorno de un jinete madrileño que participó en otro concurso previo, entre el 14 y el 16 del presente mes.

Según indicó el concejal de Actividad Física y Deporte del Ayuntamiento de Gijón, José Ramón Tuero, el primer positivo fue el del hijo de un jinete que asistió a una fiesta fuera de las instalaciones hípicas y que se supo una vez que el afectado ya había regresado a Madrid, y con el paso de los días se detectaron otros siete positivos en su entorno.

Ha sido un acto de irresponsabilidad por parte de un chico» indicó Tuero, que insistió en que «en estos momentos ninguno de los positivos está en Asturias» pero, tras una reunión esta mañana con la Dirección General de Salud Pública del Principado de Asturias, se decidió que lo más adecuado era cancelar el concurso previsto entre el 27 y 30 del presente mes.

Tuero insistió en que «en el concurso se cumplió a rajatabla el protocolo» y también que a Salud Pública se le plantearon algunas alternativas para salvar el concurso, como que se hiciera sin público o efectuando test rápidos, posibilidades que fueron rechazadas.

Por el mismo motivo tampoco se llevará a cabo el Campeonato de España de productos nacionales y yeguadas que se iba a celebrar a finales de septiembre.

Por su parte, el presidente del Club Hípico Astur, Jesús Kocina, quiso dejar claro que «el contagio es ajeno al club, aunque fue entre personas que asistieron al concurso» y destacó que «no hay ningún asturiano contagiado.

Para Kocina lo peor no es el daño económico sino el de imagen y entiende que la Dirección General de Salud Pública no quiera asumir riesgos.

Desde este organismo se recomendó al Ayuntamiento de Gijón que por el momento no organizase ningún evento en el que viniese personas de fuera de la región.
