Zandhoven, Belgium – August 25, 2019 – Patrick Stühlmeyer (GER) and Varihoka du Temple won the Flandria Rent Grand Prix CSI 3* powered by Centrauto yesterday during the De Kraal International CSI 3*/2* in Zandhoven, Belgium.
The German had already won the 1.50m FEI ranking class on Saturday with Chacgrano. Yesterday, he rode the 10-year old Selle Français stallion (Luigi D’Amaury x Kannan) in the feature class of the event, a 1.55m jump-off FEIranking class.
Course designer Eddy Geysemans built a high and delicate course. Out of 49 starters only five combinations qualified for the jump off. In the jump-off the German the rider from the Schockmöhle stables was the only rider to go clear.
It was a one-two for Germany as Harm Lahde (GER) and Oak Groves Hearfelt were actually faster than the eventual winners, but their time of 47.61 seconds came at the expense of one rail down for four penalty-points, meaning that they had to settle for second place.
Francisco José Mesquita Musa (BRA) and Catch me Império Egipcio were consistent again, rounding out the top three with the same score as the previous two, stopping the final timers in 50.89 seconds.
Patrick: “ The triple combination was definitely the joker. Two verticals followed by an oxer all at one stride is not easy. I was the first to go in the jump off and I rode fast but not with full risks. This is my first international Grand Prix that I win with Varihoka and I am super happy with the nice BMW car for this victory. De Kraal International is a great show, everything is well organised and you really feel at home. If it depends on me I’ll definitely be back next year.”
