Calgary, Alberta, Canada – July 05, 2019 – Philipp Weishaupt (GER) and Coby 8 won the $36,100 Pepsi Challenge Cup CSI 5* yesterday during the ‘North American’ at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada.

The rain held off as the competition began – the final competition on the International Ring for Friday of the ‘North American’ Tournament. Sixteen horse/rider combinations representing eleven countries started the 1.45m speed class hoping for a trip to the winner’s circle and their name added to historic Pepsi Challenge Trophy.

The one round competition had its tests over the track, and Philipp Weishaupt from Germany clearly well prepared for the test and made it look easy. Aboard Coby 8,  a 9-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Contagio x Escudo) Weishaupt effective and efficiently covered the course and crossed the finish line with no penalties and a time of 61.19 seconds to earn the victory.

Andrew Kocher (USA) and Squirt Gun (Diarado x Quick Star) were consistent again, finishing second only due to their time of 61.73 seconds.

Angel Karolyi (VEN) and Cooper (Viento Uno W x Voltaire) completed the podium, registering no penalties in 64.01 seconds.

Winner’s Circle

“I’m very happy with how he (Coby 8) has been coming along. He started off quite green and spooky in week one to now winning here in the International Ring.” – Philipp Weishaupt (GER) on his young horse Coby 8 and how he has developed over the Spruce Meadows Summer Series
