Calgary, Alberta, Canada – June 27, 2019 – Two Friends of the Meadows Cup CSI 5* competitions were run yesterday to accommodate all of the horses and riders looking to compete in the division. The first competition brought fifty-six competitors into the ring to test their skills on the track designed by FEI Course Designer Quintin Maertens (NED).

The 1.45m two-phase competition required competitors to jump the first phase of the course clear before proceeding immediately to the second phase, where the fastest clear ride would be the winner.

Luiz Francisco de Azevedo (BRA) and HBR Dance claimed his second win of the 2019 Spruce Meadows Summer Series, topping the first of the two $36,100 Friends of the Meadows Cup CSI 5*.

The Brazilian and the 11-year-old Belgian Sport Horse (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Lumpaci) advanced to and completed the second phase of the contest without having any penalties attributed to them, securing the victory in 25.13 seconds.

Rich Fellers (USA) and Steelbi (VDL Empire x Stanford) also registered no penalties, finishing second in 25.51 seconds.

Francesca Bolfo (USA) and Lasirca Kil (Lasirco x Charity) completed the podium, just nine-tenths of a second slower than the latter two.
