Jennifer Gates (USA) has begun the year with another great addition to her very talented string of horses. After making the headlines at the beginning of last year by having former world number one rider Harrie Smolders (NED) as her new trainer, the American once again is in the limelight after acquiring Billy Raymont’s (AUS) Oaks Redwood.
The 14-year-old chestnut Australian-bred gelding (ASB Conquistador x Verdi) had been brought up successfully by Stephanie Tucker (AUS), including earning wins with her and Billy Raymont (AUS). It was with the latter that the gelding qualified for the individual final during the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina, USA.
Shortly after, the horse was acquired by Axel Verlooy’s Eurohorse, being consistently ridden under the saddle of Axel’s son, Jos Verlooy (BEL). The Belgian and the chestnut registered 12 clear rounds out of 18 competed together, earning a third place at the Stuttgart German Masters CSI 5*-W and a fourth-place finish at the Jumping Indoor Maastricht CSI 4* in the Netherlands.
