A class under the rules of “Winning Round” table is synonymous with adrenaline and entertainment, and the €95,000 Estrella Damm Trophy CSI 5* was not going to be an exception.
The best riders of the event battled it out for a position on the podium Saturday’s feature class. A very squared 1.50m course was the first track that the participants had to overcome, in which the fifth obstacle – a double – was the main one in charge of selecting the finalists for the Winning Round.
In this first course, many well known riders such as Simon Delestre (FRA), second place in the Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio Trophy CSI 5 that took place the previous, fell off the table. None of the Spanish participants were able to qualify for the Winning Round, with Gerardo Menéndez Mieres (ESP) registering the best position in 21st place.
The Winning Round was filled with tension and the public had many good riders to choose from to place their bets.
Marcus Ehning (GER) & Funky Fred during the awards ceremony
Finally it was Marcus Ehning (GER), known as “The Maestro”, who was in charge of giving us a fast yet elegant course, which secured him the first place aboard his horse Funky Fred (For Pleasure x Pilot) in a time of 37.18 seconds.
Speedster Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) was second aboard Chalou (Chacco Blue / Baloubet du Rouet), who was not far from Ehning, finishing the course in 37.83 seconds.
Being the last participant, Guillaume Foutrier (FRA) conquered the bronze medal riding Tchin de la Tour ( Chin Chin x Narcos II) in a time of 38.08 seconds.
The winner of yesterday’s Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio Trophy CSI 5*, Julien Epaillard (FRA) was left without chances of qualifying for the podium when Usual Suspect d’Auge knocked down the penultimate obstacle of this Winning Round challenge.
