On Thursday evening, fifty-nine couples started in the €22,800 Grand Prix Cheval TV of the French Equestrian Federation Grand Indoor circuit, in the arena of Equita Longines, le Salon du Cheval de Lyon.
Among the riders to complete a double clear round and record a quick time, Benoît Cernin proved to be the fastest. The rider (based in the Saône-et-Loire) won this Grand Prix at 1.50m on Unamour du Suyer (Calvaro x Quidam de Revel), beating thirteen other riders in the jump-off. Being the last rider out, Benoît Cernin took tight corners and lengthened the horse’s strides to complete his second round in a very quick time, 32.86 seconds.
He finished ahead of Norman Mathieu Billot (FRA), who had been leading the class after a very fast jump-off time of 34.75 seconds on Vent du Sud, while the young Arthur Deuquet (FRA) took third place with Thara Nantuel (Diamant de Semilly x Quidam de Revel) in 34.98 seconds.
“I had watched Mathieu’s (Billot) jump-off carefully; he went really fast,” said Benoît Cernin as he came of the course. “I must admit that Unamour did a great job, especially on the two corners I was most worried about. He was perfect,” he added. In just two days, Benoît Cernin has already won two classes. “My horses are in good form. I can’t wait for the next event!” said Benoît with a smile.
