Podium Sweep for Ireland Again! Darragh Kenny Thrives in the $87,500 Recon Metal Cup CSI 5*

Calgary, Canada – June 12, 2025 – It seems the Irish are not to be messed with this season at Spruce Meadows. After multiple strong showings last week to kick off the FEI tournaments at Spruce Meadows including a podium sweep, they had repeat performances today in the $87,500 Recon Metal Cup CSI 5* – 1.55m. Darragh Kenny (IRL) and Eddy Blue took top spot today against a strong field of 40 other athletes posting the fastest clear round in the jump off with a time of 40.07 seconds. The track was designed by FEI Course Designer Olaf Petersen Jr. (GER)

“It was a great class. Very fast jump off. I absolutely love jumping in this ring. The footing is incredible. You know, I it’s always been a lucky ring for me, actually, I’ve always had good success in it. And, my horse was brilliant. He’s in super form at the moment. He had a really uncharacteristic result in the Grand Prix last week, but, he bounced back and jumps super today, and I expect a good result on Saturday.” – Darragh Kenny (IRL) on Eddy Blue’s performance in the Recon Metal Cup and his expectations for Saturday’s RBC Grand Prix of Canada, presented by Rolex.

There was less than two-tenths of a second from first to third with David O’Brien (IRL) and Conor Swail (IRL) posting clear rides with times of 40.15 seconds and 40.23 seconds respectively.
