Amanda Derbyshire & Cornwall BH Conquer the $120,000 Two Trees Distilling Co. Grand Prix CSI 3*

Mill Spring, North Carolina, USA โ€“ June 08, 2024 โ€“ย Continuing to capitalize on multiple wins and top placings in Tryon Stadium, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) saw the top of the podium in the $120,000 Two Trees Distilling Co. Grand Prix CSI 3* to close out the The Tryon Spring Series presented byย Stuller Power Solutions.

Teaming up with her own Cornwall BH (Con Air x Cambridge 8), Derbyshire conquered the Oscar Soberon (USA) course in 37.74 seconds.

As the third of four to attempt Saturdayโ€™s short track, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) acknowledged the challenge that her fellow jump off riders posed. โ€œThe jump off was fast!โ€ She noted. โ€œI actually watched Kristen [VanderVeen] go, and I was like, โ€˜I don’t want to be a defeatist, but I don’t know if I can get that time.โ€

Capt. Brian Cournane (USA) & Armik

Despite the stiff competition, Derbyshire laid out the fastest time of the night, winning by a margin of .42 seconds with the 2008 Holsteiner gelding. โ€œCornwall has turned out to be a very fast horse, and he’s careful. He’s got plenty of experience, and that always helps going in the jump off,โ€ she said of her equine teammate of nine years. โ€œI’ve got an incredible team around me, an incredible team of horses right now, and a lot of support. Iโ€™m grateful to be here!โ€

Flo Phillips was awarded the Groomโ€™s Award presented byย Ariat for her care and dedication to Cornwall BH, alongside Tryon Internationalโ€™s Drew Page.

Alongside the veteran Cornwall BH, Derbyshire also challenged the Grand Prix with Balia Silvia, finishing ninth with the Pine Hollow Farm mare. โ€œI decided to put a newer, greener horse in as my second Grand Prix horse, and she actually jumped fabulous tonight,โ€ Derbyshire recapped. โ€œWe had one down, so as much as I was happy for Cornwall to be clear, I was pretty happy with the greener horse who weโ€™re bringing along.โ€

As the highest placing female rider in the Grand Prix, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) was awarded the Leading Lady Award presented byย Marthaler Jewelers, for the second week in a row, alongside Tryon Internationalโ€™s Director of Business Development, Lynn Penny.

For the final spring edition of Saturday Night Lights presented by Stuller Power Solutions, Tryon International saw a full house and enthusiastic fans cheering on Grand Prix competitors. โ€œThe crowd is always so nice at Tryon, and everyone’s so into it. This is now where we’re based out of, so it’s always nice to do well where you’re based!โ€ Derbyshire concluded.
