Hamburg, Germany โ May 11, 2024 โ โI saw Danielโs ride on the screen and knew that it could be a little faster.โ โDanielโ refers to Daniel Deuรer (GER), a two-time Olympian who won team bronze in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The person who followed the ride was David Will (GER), team vice-European champion. Deuรer had presented a fault-free round in 65.74 seconds on Bingo STE Hermelle in the โ25 Years of Derby”, the โฌ28,500 En Garde Prize CSI 5*, a five-star jumping competition based on faults and time. Will followed up and won with the eleven-year-old Holsteiner Zaccorado Blue in 64.55 seconds. โIn the combination with the triple bar and the steep jump, I did one less canter jump. I think I won the jumping there.โ
Course manager Frank Rothenberger‘s (GER) course specified a relatively large number of distances, and it took a little imagination to save a gallop jump somewhere. โBut I know Zaccorado very well and knew: If I wanted to do one less canter jump, then it would be the combination – that worked.โ The winner – what kind of guy is he? โWe have had Zaccorado in the stable for a long time, he is our ribbon pony. He is super versatile, very careful, has a great canter and collects placings.โ
In the end, Deuรer and Bingo took second place, followed by the Irishman Denis Lynch (IRL), who finished third with Cornets Iberio in 65.94 seconds. In total, 16 of the 31 pairs in the 1.50 meter competition, with 14 obstacles, remained without jumping errors, including many leaders such as the Olympic silver medalist from Sweden, Rolf-Gรถran Bengtsson (SWE), the two-time World Cup participant from Ireland, Shane Breen (IRL), and the ten-time European Championship rider Geir Gulliksen (NOR).
On Thursday Will had already led the lap of honor at the Championat of Hamburg CSI 5* with My Prins van Dorperheide, on Saturday he won the โ25 Years Derby – En Garde Prize CSI 5* and an hour later the Longines Grand Prix of Hamburg began. โIt would be quite fitting if it continued like this again,โ smiled the 36-year-old.
Willโs Hamburg conclusion โ before the Longines Grand Prix: โHamburg is simply beautiful! Great spectators, well organized โ itโs really fun to ride here.โ His foreign colleagues are also enthusiastic. โFor the Irish, Dublin is sacred and they say: โOh, itโs like Dublin, wonderful!โ Itโs just an absolutely special tournament.โ
