Julien Épaillard & Cancun Torel Z Cruise to Another Victory!

Madrid, Spain – November 24, 2023 – Last weeken, he was the winner of the €1,250,000 Super Grand Prix of the Global Champions Tour Playoffs CSI 5* in Prague, the Czech Republic, and on Friday, in Madrid, Julien Epaillard (FRA) continued in his line, winning. The Haras de la Bosquetterie rider led the classification of the €26,700 ¡HOLA! Trophy CSI 5*-W with Cancun Torel Z, a 12-year-old Zangersheide mare (Cosinhus x Grannus) who has been competing for a few months and with whom he has won four of the last five races they have contested.

The first round of the five-star Longines FEI Jumpig World Cup, the €26,700 ¡HOLA! Trophy CSI 5*-W had a comfortable course with a high number of clear rounds. Just before the break, Julien Epaillard (FRA) with Cancun Torel Z sealed the victory with a very fast ride in 47’29 seconds. Despite half of the race still to go, nobody could improve or even come close to the time of the rider from Haras de la Bosquetterie. 

The one who came closest was Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) with Elwikke. The Dutchman tried with the daughter of Eldorado vd Zeshoek, but was 2 seconds behind the French rider. 

After Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Maikel van der Vleuten, bronze honors was conquered by Francesco Turturiello (ITA). The Italian was third with Quite Balou, registering no penalties in 51.41 seconds.

The best classified Spaniard was Mariano Martínez Bastida (ESP, seventh with his new Messento, also highlighting Teresa Blázquez Abascal (ESP), who finished without penalties with her two mares, Bella PS and Nasa de Toxandria.

The prize-giving ceremony was attended by Mr. Lorenzo Cavanillas García de Carellan, rider in show jumping competitions and former president of the Spanish Academic Forum of Equestrian Studies and Mr. Fernando Basail Larrañaga Professor of riding and first riding teacher of the Infanta Elena.

1) Julien Épaillard (FRA) & Cancun Torel Z – 0 – 47.92

2) Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) & Elwikke – 0 – 49.96

3) Francesco Turturiello (ITA) & Quite Balou – 0 – 51.41
