Barcelona, Spain – September 29, 2023 – Julien Epaillard (FRA), riding Donatello d’Auge, has emerged victorious in the €97,700 City of Barcelona Trophy CSIO 5* by completing an impressive second round, setting an unbeatable time for all his competitors. The French rider was the fastest among the nine riders who advanced to the second round without penalties. Behind Epaillard, his compatriot Simon Delestre (FRA) and Dexter Fontenis Z secured the second position, just one second slower, while the third place went to the world’s number one ranked rider, Swedish rider Henrik von Eckermann (SWE), with Glamour Girl.
The new equestrian grandstand at the Real Club de Polo showcased its finest appearance to host a spectacular event, coinciding with the traditional gala dinner in the club’s stands. The second day of the CSIO Barcelona concluded with a tribute concert to ABBA on the Olympic arena at the RC Polo.
During the intermission between the two rounds, the Joaquín Calvo Memorial Trophy was presented. In its fourth edition, the award was given to Marco Fusté, who sadly passed away last year but whose legacy and passion for equestrian sports will always endure within the equestrian community. Marco Fusté was a lifelong member of the RC Polo, in addition to serving as the head of the national show jumping team for many years and, more recently, as the jumping director for the Fédération Equestre Internationale. The award was received by Mrs. Isabel Gargallo, Marco Fusté’s widow, his daughter Ainhoa, and his father Francisco Fusté, presented by Mrs. Magda Ferrer-Dalmau, the widow of Joaquín Calvo.
