Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada – September 07, 2023 – Over 40 competitors stepped onto the International Ring this morning to get the show jumping action started for Thursday of the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ CSIO 5* & CSI 2*. Riders had to cover the ground at a speed of 400m/min and clear 12 obstacles (15 jumping efforts) in under a time of 65 seconds in order to advance to the jump off of the $100,000 ATCO Cup CSIO 5*.
Eleven of athletes representing nine nations all passed FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) first round test and advanced to the jump off. Fresh off the European Championship, Martin Fuchs (SUI) was looking for his first Spruce Meadows win of the season. Aboard Bastille, the pair were the quickest through the finish line, clean in a time of 39.65 seconds for the win.
