Chantilly, France – July 12, 2023 – Chantilly quickly regained its splendor of yesteryear with this new organization of Grand Prix. Jumping, which has become Chantilly Classic CSI 4*, has retained all its magnificence with this green track in this exceptional setting between the Grandes Écuries and the Château. This sumptuous side can be found in the quality of the set with Olympic Champions, World and European Champions and World Cup winners. The victory of the main event of the day, the Grand Prix des Haras Nationaux CSI 4*, is Brazilian: it is due to Pedro Veniss (BRA), member of the Auriverdes team at the last Tokyo Olympics.
We remember this great Brazilian rider at the time of the washed horsehair chestnut Quabri de L’Isle with whom he had notably won the Major of Geneva where the beautiful stallion said goodbye last December. Winning this Grand Prix des Haras at Chantilly was not the Brazilian’s first intention, but Nice Van Baublo, his 10-year-old bay mare by Bisquet Balou, decided otherwise:
“I didn’t expect to run this race at full speed today. Today, but after the first obstacle, I felt that my mare wanted to go fast… an impression like that. So I changed my plan and let her go.” An unexpected victory, but as close as possible (11 hundredths) ahead of the Frenchman Bruno Garez (FRA) with the stallion United Sunheup (by Balougran). The Swiss Niklaus Rutschi (SUI) completes the podium with Cardano CH (by Chameur).
Rather than dwell on his victory, Pedro Veniss wanted above all to express his happiness to find Chantilly again: “It is an immense pleasure to jump on this great track, you can feel the happy horses. This course was superb and we are lucky to have a very good course designer this weekend, the Spaniard Santiago Varela (ESP), and all that, I felt in the way my horse jumped. It’s great news for everyone to be able to return to this exceptional setting. Everything is well organized and a big congratulations to this new team”.
With the Classic, Chantilly has also regained free access: great sporting moments (and a sumptuous village) await spectators until Saturday for strong emotions with, as a high point, the Grand Prix de la Ville de Chantilly Saturday at 2 p.m.
