Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada โ June 17, 2023 โ The final competition of the day at Spruce Meadows was the $80,000 APEX Cup CSI 5*, presented by Excel Homes. Saturday ‘s evening competition was a Table C (speed) which means that penalty-points on course were converted into time – even those with a rail could still be the fastest.
Nayel Nassar (EGY) and Liguini de La Pomme were the eleventh combination into the ring and produced a quick clear round over the 600m track that had him finish with a time of 77.84 seconds.
It looked lightning fast, but Santiago Lambre (BRA) proved it could be done faster. Aboard the big, Oldenburg gelding, Chattanooga, despite a rail on course, Lambre flew through the finish line posting a combined score of 76.90 seconds to claim the win.
As a testament of the level of competitiveness, three different nations were represented on the podium. Sergio รlvarez Moya (ESP) and Baltazar D Z left all the poles up for no penalties too, but was much slower than the winners, completing the course in 78.49 seconds for bronze honors.
