Carlos Ribas & Trix on Top Form in the First Qualifier for the Hamburg Derby CSI 4*

Hamburg, Germany – May 18, 2022 – There was definitely a lot of Brazilian temperament on the beautiful grass pitch in Klein Flottbek in this first qualifier for the German Show Jumping Derby CSI 4*, presented by Idee Kaffee. Carlos Ribas (BRA) and his only nine-year-old Trix. With a whopping five-second lead, they took the lead for good and relegated Denis Lynch (IRL), who is also known for fast laps, to second place with Rubens LS La Silla while third was claimed his compatriot Shane Breen (IRL) with Scarteen.

In 1997, Carlos Ribas was already at the start in Hamburg, his first tournament in Europe. He had left home to train with Nelson Pessoa. This was followed by a 26-year Derby break, but Ribas has big plans for his Hamburg comeback: “Trix is incredibly fast, last year he was eight years old and second in the Speed Derby in Hickstead. John Whitaker(GBR) is his breeder. I’ve had him since he was seven,” says Ribas about his sports partner: “Trix likes natural jumps and is very ambitious, which of course makes it easy for me. I also have a second horse in the Derby Tour, Night Secret Z. Both of them will also go in the second qualifier on Friday, then I will decide who goes on Sunday.”

The Derby winner from 2022, Cassandra Orschel, was also in good form. With her Dacara E she managed an easy and flawless round: “She made it very easy for me today and was very ambitious. She feels very comfortable here and is ready for the weekend,” enthuses Orschel about the Holsteiner. “It was a great feeling to unload Dacara here yesterday and it’s very emotional for me to be here again. I can hardly believe it’s been a year since the derby win. But we are ready!”

Among the zero-fault rounds were again: the Olympic champion in eventing Sandra Auffarth (GER) and her proven Nupafeed’s La Vista, André Thieme (GER) with Derby young horse Paule S, the young Elisa Marlene von Hacht (GER) from Hamburg with her Lancoon and the Derby runner-up by 2022 Frederic Tillmann (GER) with DSP Comanche VL.
