Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – March 17, 2023 – It is Saint Patrick’s Day and what better way to celebrate than for the top two riders on the podium to be Irish in the €27,500 Andalucía Trophy Big Tour Trophy CSI 4*! The 1.50 Longines Ranking speed class featured 100 participants on a course designed by Leopoldo Palacios Jugo (VEN) and set up on the David Broome grass arena.
Richard Howley (IRL) was our winner today, taking the lead in the class with the amazingly fast and balanced, 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, Mansini LTD (Caressini L x Marramas). Howley and the gelding had already won the Barceló Conil Playa Trophy CSI 4* the day before and again they didn’t disappoint! They stopped the timers in this challenging class in just 74.31 second.
Winners of the €10,450 Hipotels Big Tour Speed Challenge CSI 4* last week, the only others to come close to their time were Jason Foley (IRL) with the super mare Rockwell RC (Kannan), being only six-hudredths of a second off their mark.
Right behind these top two superstars was the Olympic Spanish rider, Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) with Bentley de Sury (Sunday de Riverland x Calvaro), registering no penalties in 77.09 seconds for bronze honors.
