Riesenbeck, Germany – March 11, 2023 – Michael Symmangk (GER) and Caillaux were the winners of the €27,000 Grand Prix of Riesenbeck CSI 2* last Saturday at the Riesenbeck International equestrian venue. the Japanese Eiken Sato (JPN) with Dexter Bois Margot claimed second place while Irishman Shane Carey (IRL) on Skorphults Baloutendro completed the podium.
Thirty-seven combinations took part in the first round of this 1.45m jump-off challenge. Course designer Olaf Hermann (GER) had set demanding courses the previous three days of the tournament. It was the “usual suspects” – riders who like to visit the tournaments at the Surenburg – with their horses at the start: Felix Hassmann (GER), Katrin Eckermann (GER), Hans-Thorben Rüder (GER), Anneliese Vorsselmans (BEL), Eiken Sato (JPN), Noora Pentti (FIN), Christian Kukuk (GER), but also the world’s best eventing rider, multiple Olympic champion and world and European champion Michael Jung (GER).
Fifteen pairs managed to qualify for the tiebreaker after a clean performance but in the end it was Michael who mastered the course on the 14-year-old dark bay Westphalian gelding (Cornado I x Landcapitol), completing their second run in 33.19 seconds.
Eiken Sato (JPN) continues to have good results at this level, this time guiding Dexter Bois Margot (Qlassic Bois Margot) towards silver honors, doing so in 33.67 seconds.
Shane Carey (IRL) on Skorphults Baloutendro (Christian x Couleur-Rubin) also left all the poles for no penalties in the decisive round, securing the third spot on the podium in 33.86 seconds.
The next CSI** tournament will be held outdoors again at the end of April.
