Nicola Pohl Powers Past the Competition in Grand Prix at the Sunshine Tour CSI 4*

Vejer de La Frontera, Spain โ€“ March 12, 2023 โ€“ As usual during weeks featuring CSI 4* classes, super Sunday featured no less than three grands prix at the Andalucรญa Sunshine Tour CSI 4*, sponsored by La Consejerรญa de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte and co-financed by the European Union. Nicola Pohl (GER) and Fiona des Hayettes were the winners of the โ‚ฌ26,500 Small Tour Grand Prix CSI 4*.

The contest featured 59 combinations in the first round trying to clear 1.45m obstacles on the course designed by Colm Quinn (IRL). Fourteen of them advanced to the tiebreaker but it was Pohl’s 12-year-old bay Belgian Sport Horse mare who powered her to victory while leaving all the poles up, blazing past the competition and across the finish line in 33.93 seconds.

Chris Smith (GBR) with Messarado Blue put on a valiant effort, but the sheer speed displayed by the eventual winners could not be matched by anyone else. The British rider earned reserve honors backed by a penalty-free performance in 35.40 seconds.

The third spot on the podium was claimed by Adam Prudent (USA) and Labalou (Luchador x Colbert GTI), completing their clean jump-off run in 35.78 seconds.
