Barcelona, Spain – November 27, 2022 – Rubén Gómez Crespo (ESP) was the star of the day last Sunday at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. The Spanish rider managed to bookend the podium of the feature class, €25,500 Grand Prix of Barcelona CSI 2*during the first week of the Barcelona Christmas Tour CSI 2*.
Only four of the forty-one combinations completed the first round course of the 1.45m challenge in flawless fashion to advance to the jump-off. In the end, it was Rubén Crespo (ESP) and Caelios de Roumard, a 2012 bay Selle Français gelding (Pezetas du Rouet), who prevailed, completing their second penalty-free performance in 41.41 seconds.
Despite being over two seconds slower than the eventual winners in the decisive round, Primitivo Nieves Zorrilla (ESP) and Mandoro ‘P’ (Emerald x Indoctro) secured a second-place finish as the only other combination that was clear in the tiebreaker, being timed in 43.81 seconds.
Crespo also conquered the third spot on the podium despite registering the fastest jump-off time aboard Allblack de Gressoux (Pacific des Essarts x Queiros du Riou*HN). Unfortunately, their time of 40.86 seconds came at the expense of one rail down, resulting in four penalty points, still good enough for bronze honors.
