
Madrid, Spain – November 26, 2022 – The third show jumping event of the day at the 2022 edition of the IFEMA Madrid Horse Week CSI 5*-W was the €25,500 Marqués de Vargas Trophy, a 1.45 meter course. The criteria used to determine the eventual winners were the stopwatch and bar knockdowns.
In a session marked from the beginning by Spanish successes, the Danish Andreas Schou (NED) broke the trend, although he did it riding a mare with a very Spanish name: Macarena. The Oldenburg mare of only 8 years old (Monte Bellini x Saccor), who recently joined his stable and with whom he recorded the best time amongst seven clear rounds.
The Danish rider led the classification with 55.41 seconds, while the young French rider Aurelien Leroy (FRA) finished second on Coqsel de Blaignac (Ugano Sitte x Rubynea) in 56’08 seconds.
Third place went to the veteran rider from the Netherlands, Eric Van der Vleuten (NED), riding Icarronne-S (Carrera VDL x Lord Z), registering no penalties in 56.35 seconds.
At the end of the competition, the president of Bodegas y Viñedos del Marques de Vargas, Mr. Pelayo de la Mata, was in charge of presenting the trophy to the winner.
