Dinard, France – July 29, 2022 – The sun appeared for the second day of competition at Val Porée stadium, during the 2022 edition of the Jumping International de Dinard CSI 5* & CSI 3* and it was Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Gracieux du Pachis whop claimed top honors in the €60,000 Prix L’Eperon – Charles de Cazanove CSI 5*.
In the leading event of the day, the 1.55m prize brought together some of the best couples in the world. It started at 5.30 pm, in front of a full house. Very quickly, the couples were able to overcome the difficulties set up by the ringmaster Jean-François Morand, as the Dutch rider, Harrie Smolders (NED), number one to start with Darry Lou, completed a clear round and was immediately followed by the American Katherine A. Dinan (USA) and François-Xavier Boudant from France.
In the end, fourteen couples managed to do well on the green and pink oxer number 6, placed along the large stand and which gave the couples a hard time, and the triple, located just after, at the exit of the curve, in the width of the grass track of Val Porée. Among the couples selected for the jump-off were Irish rider Denis Lynch (IRL) and PSS Levilensky, Israeli rider Daniel Bluman (ISR) and Gemma W, German rider Christian Ahlmann (GER) and Solid Gold Z, French rider Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) and Ilex VP, as well as Julien Anquetin (FRA) and Valou du Lys, and Swiss rider Steve Guerdat and his promising nine-year-old mare Dynamix de Belheme.
Out of the fourteen selected, three couples chose not to go back to the jump-off to preserve their horses, but not Harrie Smolders (NED), who was the first to start this final on time, announced the color immediately: he signed a fast clear round in 41.25 seconds.
A few performances later, it was Daniel Bluman (ISR) who managed to lower the time with his formidable white mare Gemma W (40.38). Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) tried to catch the leading coombination aboard Ilex VP but did not succeed. He nevertheless signed a nice clear round, temporarily placing him in third place.
Then it was Julien Epaillard‘s (FRA) turn, who, thanks to his legendary speed, received all the encouragement of the public, aware of the possibility of seeing the Frenchman win. He was not mistaken, adopting an impressive gallop, tightening his turns as he knows so well how to do, the rider led Gracieux du Pachis (Tinka’s Boy x Carentino) with a masterful hand, succeeding in going under the 40 seconds mark (39.18).
His counterpart Julien Gonin (FRA) tried to catch up with him, but he took a very good second place with Valou du Lys, in 40.23 seconds. The Israeli Daniel Bluman is third with Gemma W.
