A One-Two for the Host Nation on Canada Day! Jacqueline Steffens & Freaky Supreme in $75,000 Duncan Ross Cup CSI 5*

Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada – July 01, 2022 – Thousands of show jumping fans flocked to the International Ring to watch the $75,000 Duncan Ross Cup CSI 5* on Canada Day at Spruce Meadows. The 33 entries representing 7 countries took on the track designed by Canadian FEI Course Designer Peter Grant (CAN). Athletes needed to successfully complete 12 obstacles (15 efforts) in under the time allowed in order to make it to the jump off round.

Five competitors-representing Canada, the United States and Mexico- passed the first round test to come back for the jump off, including Canadian riders Mario Deslauriers (CAN) and Jacqueline Steffens (CAN). Even though it was her first trip to Spruce Meadows, Steffens took to the International Ring like a veteran. Aboard her 12 year-old-bay gelding Freaky, the pair laid down the fastest clear round with a jump-off time of 41.27 seconds.

It was Canada Day and Canadian riders did not disappoint fans present at the venue, claiming the top two spots in the 1.55m challenge. Mario Deslauriers (CAN) rode Emerson towards a second-place finish, the difference being their jump-off time of 42.90 seconds.

The competition was fierce, in fact, a former number one ranked rider in the world, Kent Farrington (USA) guided Landon flawlessly over the course in each of their two rounds, completing the second one in 43.54 seconds for bronze honors.

The top 5 riders from this competition have now qualified for Sunday’s Grand Prix, the ‘Pan American’ Cup, presented by Rolex.
