A More than Special Victory by Bryan Balsiger in €25,500 Celside Jump-off Challenge CSI 2* at Grimaud

Grimaud, France – May 13, 2022 – It was more than a special day for Bryan Balsiger (SUI) on Friday at the Hubside Jumping de Grimaud CSI 3* & 2*. The young Swiss star rode Just Special VK to victory in the €25,500 Celside Jump-off Challenge CSI 2*.

A total of eight out of the 32 combinations that had competed in the first round managed to advance to the tiebreaker of the 1.45m class. Victor Bettendorf (LUX) and Astuce de La Roque were the fastest duo in the decisive round, however, their time of 36.25 seconds came at the expense of one pole down, resulting in a sixth place finish. In the end, it was Balsigher (SUI) and the 2014 chestnut mare (Falaise de Muze x Toulon) who did just what it took to win, producing a clean peformance in 38.25 seconds.

Laura Kraut (USA) and Bisquetta were also prudent enough to post a second clean round, securing reserve honors in 38.85 seconds.

A rising star in the sport, Megane Moissonnier (FRA) was consistent once again, registering the third-fastest fault-free run aboard Caballero (Casall x Esteban XX), doing so in 40.49 for the third spot on the podium.

Winner’s Circle – Bryan Balsiger (SUI)

“The jump-off went quickly and I am very satisfied with Just Special VK: it was her first event counting for the Longines ranking, the second time she took part in a 145 cm event, and she wins! She’s a mare I’ve been riding for two years and in whom I believe a lot. She has great potential and a strong temperament (laughs). She likes to go fast and that’s what was needed today. In this jump-off, I started last, it’s a chance: I had been able to see Laura Kraut’s (USA) course and had noticed that I could probably cut a bend more easily, without taking too many risks. It worked! Sunday, I will run normally the 2* Grand Prix with another eight-year-old mare, Scarlina de Tiji Z: it will also be a first at this level for her Chelsea Z will race the 3* Grand Prix: it will also be her first. firsts for my young horses of eight and nine years old, who have already turned, but who must now s get into the deep end!”
