Maubeuge, France – May 01, 2022 – Despite the young age, Thibeau Spits (BEL) was by far the brightest star at the Jumping International de Maubeuge CSI 3*. After an outstanding week, winning the three CSI 3* classes and the Six-Bar Challenge CSI 3*, Thibeau Spits (BEL) put the exclamation point on Sunday, riding King Van Essene to claim the crown jewel, the €51,500 Grand Prix of the City of Maubeuge CSI 3*.
The feat by the young rider was enhanced by the level of competition he faced, several riders with championship medals and five-star grand prix victories under their belts. After a clear performance in the first round, the young Belgian and the 12-year-old grey stallion (Calido I x Chacco-Blue) left the rest of the finalists in the dust, blazing across the finish line in 48.79 seconds.
Dominique Hendrickx (BEL) was the closest one, still three seconds and half slower aboard Floris TN (Quality Time TN x Vancouver).
Guillaume Foutrier (FRA) didn’t take many risks Corneska de La Falize Z (Cornet Obolensky x President) and it paid off since the Frenchman was able to secure the third spot on the podium despite having two time-penalties attributed to him in the tiebreaker.
