Arezzo, Italy – April 10, 2022 – The Irish flag stood higher than the rest at the Arezzo Equestrian Centre on Sunday as Alexander Butler (IRL) and Chili B put on a grade A performance to win the €100,200 Grand Prix CSI 4* on Sunday during the third week of the Toscana Tour.
A total of 50 combinations entered the ring for the 1.55m challenge but only thirteen of them advanced to the tiebreaker. In the jump-off, Butler was supreme aboard the 2007 grey Dutch Warmblood stallion (Berlin x Cardento 933), not only guiding him towards a penalty-free performance but the winning mark in 43.29 seconds.
Adam Grzegorzewski (POL) and Issem (Quality Time TN x Clinton) were a pleasant surprise, overcoming many heavy names of the sport on their way towards a respectacle second-place finish, registering two clean efforts while securing the silver in 43.97 seconds.
The Irish victory was even more valuable judging by the level of riders and horses Butler and his faithful partner faced as former world number one Kevin Staut (FRA) and Bond Jamesbond de Hay (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan*Gfe) claimed bronze honors. The duo fell just a little bit short due to their final time, finishing only nine-hundredths of a second (44.06) slower than the latter two.
