Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – February 20, 2022 – More than one Swiss rider stole the spotlight last Sunday on the final day of the second week of the 2022 Sunshine Tour. Besides Steve Guerdat’s win in the Big Tour Grand Prix CSI 4*, in the Hickstead arena, the €30,480 Medium Tour Grand Prix CSI 4* proved to be a very challenging class but Aurelia Loser (SUI) claimed top honors with her quality mare, ‘Anaba Haize’.
A total of eight combinations out of the 62 starters had qualified for the jump-off but one decided not to take part in , so just seven horses jumped in the decisive phase. The Swiss and the 12-year-old bay Selle Français mare (Ravage de Mars x C Indoctro II) were not only the fastest duo but also overcame the 1.50m obstacles flawlessly, securing the win in 35.73 seconds.
Gudrun Patteet (BEL) and ‘Sea Coast Donna Z’ (Diamant de Semilly x C Indoctro ) were consistent again, finishing second this time, backed by a double clear too, being just under a second slower than the winner.
The United States of America was well represented in the contest too with American riders taking third and fourth places. After finishing third in the Small Grand Prix CSI 4* on E. Clinton one week before, Lucas Porter (USA) was back on the podium. The young talented rider rode ‘C Hunter’ (Cassini II x Corland) towards bronze honors, completing his second clean performance in 36.75 seconds.
Michael Hughes (USA) and ‘Melodie-K Van’t Kattenheye (Cornet Obolenski x Kannan) rounded out the top four as the only other combination that left all the poles up in the tiebreaker, doing so in 37.74 seconds.
