
VillaMoura, Quarteira, Faro, Portugal – February 20, 2022 – The fourth week of the 2022 VillaMoura Atlantic Tour came to an end and the cozy VillaMoura Equestrian Centre felt more like France. One can say that it spectators witnessed a “Battle of Bastille“, that is a battle amongst three Les Bleus for the win. In the end, it was Mathieu Billot (FRA) and and Baschung Courcelle who bested their fellow countrymen to claim top honors in the VillaMoura Grand Prix CSI 3*
Mathew (FRA) flew aboard the 2011 bay Selle Français gelding (Lamm de Fetan x Jazz Band Courcelle) to beat four other combinations who had qualified for the jump-off out of the original 45 other pairs that challenged the 1.50m first round course. Billot (FRA) and Baschung became the best by completing the penalty-free jump-off performance in 37.70 seconds.
Robin Lesqueren (FRA) and Dorado de Riverland (Untouchable M x Argentinus) raced towards silver honors after matching the double clear of the eventual winners and stopping the timers in 38.20 seconds in the tiebreaker.
Kevin Staut (FRA) and Bond Jamesbond de Hay (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan*GFE) completed the all-French podium, registering a clean scorecard while crossing the final timers in 40.15 seconds.
