
Oliva Nova, Spain – January 27, 2022 – Déjà vu, they say that lightning rarely strikes the same spot twice but Julien Epaillard (FRA) is an when it comes to winning speed classes at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour. The “Flying” Frenchman once again teamed up with Queeletta, leaving the competition in the dust in the €25,500 Rent A Car Dénia Grand Prix Qualifier CSI 3* on Thursday at the venue along the warm coast of the Mediterranean Sea, near Valencia, Spain.
The 1.45m speed challenge was contest by a total of 66 combinations with the Frenchman and the 2008 bay Oldenburg mare (Quality 9 x Landor S) leaving all the poles up for no penalties despite blazing across the course before crossing the finish line in 59.66 seconds.
The closest other pair were almost a full four seconds slower, with silver honors being claimed by Jérôme Guery (BEL) and Grupo Prom Diego (Verdi TN x Gran Corrado), being timed at 63.52 seconds. Riders from three different nations captured the three spots on the podium. Jason Smith (GBR) rode Queensway Royal (Obos Quality 004 x Maltstriker) to third place, registering no penalties in 64.20 seconds.
