Swiss Equestrian Federation Announces Show Jumping Team for the Tokyo Olympic Games

Bern, Switzerland – July 05, 2021 – The Swiss Olympic Committee has announced their selection of riders and horses to represent the country in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, as the requested by Swiss Equestrian Federation (SVPS).  

The following four Swiss showjumpers (in alphabetical order) were selected for participation in the XXXII. Olympic Summer Games:

  • Beat Mandli (SUI) &  Dsarie  (owner: Grant Road Partners GmbH) 
  • Bryan Balsiger (SUI) & Twentytwo des Biches  (owner: Christiana Duguet) 
  • Martin Fuchs (SUI) &  Clooney 51  (owner: Luigi Baleri) 
  • Steve Guerdat (SUI) & Venard de Cerisy   (owner: CHC Horses SA) 

For the Olympic champion from London and team bronze winner from Hong Kong, Steve Guerdat (SUI), this will be his fifth games in a row after 2004 in Athens, 2008 in Hong Kong, 2012 in London and 2016 in Rio. For Martin Fuchs (SUI), this is together with Clooney the second selection for the Olympic Games after Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Beat Mändli (SUI) can also look back on sufficient Olympic experience with the participation in Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. In Sydney, the veteran team silver with Markus Fuchs (SUI), the unforgettable Willi Melliger (SUI) and Lesley McNaught. The youngest of the four, Bryan Balsiger (SUI), however, will play his very first games in Tokyo. 

The team is looked after on site by team leader Michel Sorg, Collonge-Bellerive (GE), by coach Thomas Fuchs, Wängi (TG), veterinarian Thomas Wagner, Bern (BE).
