The athletes were observed by the technical committee and the final selection was based on a long list of 12 riders.

In Tokyo, for the first time, showjumping teams will consist of 4 athletes: three starters and a reserve. The reserve rider and horse can be selected to compete even after the start of the competition. In the team competition, according to new format, there will be no discarded score, that is, the three results will be computed. Previously, four combinations were entered and the worst score would be discarded. Another change is that the individual competition precedes the team final.
