Julien Epaillard & Usual Suspect d’Auge Supreme in €30,000 Hubside Speed Challenge CSI 5*

Saint-Tropez, France – June 17, 2021 –  And two more wins for Epaillard ! For his return to CSI 5*, the Hubside Grimaud-Golfe de Saint Tropez sees once again, sorry, twice again, the Frenchman Julien Epaillard (FRA) won the main class of the day and in a second 5* event.

In Thursday’s major event, the “big one”, at the controls of Usual Suspect d’Auge, over obstacles with odds of 1.50m, Epaillard and the 2008 chestnut Selle Français gelding (Jarnac x Papillon Rouge) was ahead of two compatriots, securing the victory backed by a penalty-free effort in 64.51 seconds.

Simon Delestre (FRA) & Chesall

The always speedy and dangerous combinations made up of Simon Delestre (FRA) and Chesall Zimequest (Casall x Concerto II) were right on the heels of the eventual winners, being only eleven hundredths of a second slower, a mark that earned them second place.

Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) & Ilex VP

The all-French podium was completed by Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) aboard Ilex VP (Diamant de Semilly x Darco), who cleared all the obstacles for no penalties before tripping the timers in 65.40 seconds.

Winner’s Circle – Julien Epaillard (FRA)

“There were quite a few pairs faster than Usual Supect and me in this test, but with a fault. I didn’t go all the way but that was enough. Since the horse will jump the test on 1.55m Jump-off Challenge tomorrow and the 1.50m on Saturday, I will decide at the end of the day on Saturday whether I will take part in the Grand Prix on Sunday or not. Indeed, I am still in a very short-term vision, quite uncertain, while the Longines Global Champions Tour de Paris and Monaco are approaching. I do not yet know which leading horse will accompany me to Monaco, hence my hesitation for Sunday’s Grand Prix. It will also be necessary to observe how Billabong behaves on Saturday in 1.50 meters. Despite everything , I remain well equipped, I have great nine years old and very good horses to come. I will be able to put Queeletta and Kosmo back on the road here, at the Hubside Jumping, after Monaco. We will be running a 2 * weekend. . Those who have toured a lot in recent weeks will then be able to have a little vacation.”
