Grimaud, France – June 10, 2021 – The first jump-off challenge of the Hubside Jumping CSI 4* in Grimaud – Golfe de Saint-Tropez produced a frequest winner there, with Julien Epaillard (FRA), the current best French rider in the world ranking claiming top honors in the €35,000 Hubside Jump-off Challenge CSI 4*. While the three provisional leaders were in 1/10 of a second, the Normand and Calgary Tame shaved time off of the then leading mark, lowering it by more than two seconds!
The Frenchman and the 9-year-old chestnut Selle Français stallion (Old Chap Tame x Kashmir Van’T Schuttershof) were both precise for no penalties and very quick, dashing across the finish line in 37.91 seconds. Michel Robert (FRA) and Emerette (Diarado – Almerette) conquered another podium finish, this time in second place, backed by two penalty-free efforts and a final time of 40.25 seconds.
Cyril Bouvard (FRA) and Brocéliande du Lac (Rock’N Roll Semilly x Persan II) completed the all-French podium after leaving all the poles up at the end of their two performances, the second one just one-tenth of a second slower than the latter two.
Winner’s Circle – Julien Epaillard (FRA)
“At the start of the course, I thought Calgary Tame was a bit too high for my taste. But he finished the first round really well and in the jump-off I think he had taken the measure of the height, did not do more than what was requested, did not make unnecessary efforts. Naturally, he is a very fast horse and in the jump-off, I was lucky to have systematically good distances in the turns, a little short. This event was to test Calgary for the Grand Prix on Sunday. Verdict: he will run it! It will be his first at this level. I think he is a real horse at the high level.”
