Vilamoura, Quarteira, Faro, Portugal – February 14, 2021 – Urh Bauman (SLO) and Larisal stole the spotlight on Sunday, overcoming all the favorites to win the €51,700 Grand Prix CSI 3* during the third week of the Vilamoura Atlantic Tour at the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre.
Forty-five combinations entered the Francisco Moura Arena for the feature class of the week, a 1.50m jump-off challenge that also counted as one of the qualifiers for the Olympic Games later on this year. Only four pairs advanced to the decisive phase, but the Slovenian and the 9-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding (Larimar 7 x Casall) not only managed to go clear but also registered the fastest time, crossing the finish line in 36.73 seconds for the victory.
After winning the €25,700 Jump-off Challenge CSI 3* on Thursday, Michael Pender (IRL) and HHS Calais ( Cavalier Royale x Obos Quality 004) came close to registering their second major win of the week, this time being the fastest four-faulters among the 3 other finalists, tripping the timers in 37.02 seconds.
Alexa Ferrer (FRA) and Encantado C’SG (Verdi TN x Zeus) put the French flag on the podium, having the same score as the latter two but with a slower final time of 38.76 seconds.
