Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – December 12, 2020 – Daniel Deusser (GER) and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z won a German duel for top honors in the $442,700 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ of Riyadh CSI 4*-W last Saturday during the first week of the Diriyah Equestrian Festival.
The week’s main attraction featured 27 combinations in the two-round contest, with obstacles set at the height of 1.40m-1.60m on a course designed by Uliano Vezzani (ITA). Nine combinations registered no penalties in the first round, remaining in the hunt for the jackpot. Deusser and Stephex Stables’ 12-year-old Zangersheide stallion (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Mr. Blue) were supreme in the second round, posting a clean effort in 36.90 seconds for the victory.
It was a battle of Germans in the sands of the desert at the Arabian Peninsula. Marcus Ehning (GER) and Calanda (Calido x Chasseur I) came close to claiming the crown, losing out only by only one-tenth of a second, good enough for silver honors.
Jos Verlooy (BEL) completed the all-European podium, this time by riding Varoune (Verdi x Cardalme) towards two penalty-free performances. The Belgian secured the third spot on the podium with a final time of 38.01 seconds.
