Saugerties, New York, USA – September 06, 2020 – A great weekend of showjumping got underway during the eighth week of the Hits-on-the-Hudson Series at the Hits Saugerties. The week featured the 2020 HITS Championship, the richest weekend in showjumping this year.
The first major competition of the weekend took place on Friday and the outcome of the jump-off challenge saw a very familiar face on top of the podium. Jordan Coyle (IRL) and Picador entered the Grand Prix stadium as one of the favorites and they put on another brilliant performance, claiming the victory in the $75,000 SmartPak Grand Prix.
After winning the $200,000 Purina Animal Nutrition Grand Prix at the same circuit late July, The Irishman and the 13-year-old Anglo-European Sport Horse (Lupicor x Concorde) teamed up for another major victory, this time besting a field of other 46 other combinations, seven other ones in the jump-off. The dynamic duo registered the fastest time among the six pairs that had a clean scorecard in the decisive phase, securing the victory in 40. 11 seconds.
Thiago Rhavy (BRA) and Salamandra Baloubina (Baloubet du Rouet x Unknown) gave the eventual winners a run for their money, finishing second only due to their final time of 40.45 seconds.
Jenni McAllister (USA) and Escada V S (Escudo 19 x For Feeling) were a bit further behind, rounding out the top three in 43.69 seconds.
