São Paulo, Brazil – August 01, 2020 – In times of great difficulties and challenges, Haras Rosa Mystica has found opportunities, standing out internationally by maintaining investments and growing in the export of exclusive animals, mainly to the United States. Nilson Leite, owner of the stables, alongside with his siblings Edson, Neide and Vânia, kindly spoke to us about the Leite family‘s passion for horses and the success story of Haras Rosa Mystica.

A Passion for Horses

Nilson tells us that the Leite family started in equestrian activities 25 years ago. Descendants people from the countryside, and despite being born in the metropolis of São Paulo, the Leite siblings always spent their holidays at their maternal grandfather’s farm, where they rode horseback horses. Subsequently, they took riding lessons, and later with their father’s retirement and decision to go live in the countryside, the whole family came together to breed high performance sport horses, thus Haras Rosa Mystica was born.

The first major achievement took place when Calinka GV Mystic Rose won the 2005 Brazilian Qualifier for the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses 5-Year-olds, that takes place in Lanaken, Belgium. It was the first major international experience for the stables, in partnership with the rider André Luiz Martins dos Santos (BRA). “It was really instigating and gave us the certainty that we could reach the top level, competing on equal terms with the world. We started not only to believe, but to make sure that we could breed and develop high performance horses, in conditions to compete with the best breeders in the world, ” stated Nilson.

Brazilian Sport Horse – Jumping Obstacles & Challenges through Excellence

In their countryside farm in the state of São Paulo, the Leite family breeds horses of the Brazilian Sport Horse Studbook (BH), a breed still in formation, small, but with studious breeders, who are passionate and eager for results. Nilson tells us that breeders from the BH studbook are attentive to the best in genetics and management  from around the world, and try to shorten paths, not making the same mistakes as other studbooks. “The breeding has emerged as something that was “handcrafted”, privileging quality over quantity, and the results are really incredible. BH horses stand out not only in Showjumping, but also in Dressage and Eventing”, highlights Nilson.

The sport in Brazil needs investments. Unfortunately, it is not very interesting to have a Grand Prix horse competing in Brazil. The prizes are very low, most of the time not even paying the animal’s expenses. However, for there to be an evolution, greater support and investment from companies is necessary, and according to the manager of the renowned breeding farm, this will only happen when the sponsor is seen as an investor and not a donor. “The sponsor expects and needs a return on the investment made, and for that we have to look for what we can deliver in return. We have little public, little visibility and, therefore, little investment. We will have to use a very bold market intelligence that can break these barriers and deliver a result that attracts and fidelizes our investors.”

The sanitary barrier due to glanders is another discouraging factor, which leaves Brazilian Sport Horse breeders isolated, like an island on the world stage. The difficulty of exporting an animal today is very high, generating an unnecessary effort. For Nilson, “there is a lack of marketing planning to leverage BH products in America, and there is an absence of self-worthiness. “In Brazil, there is a plenty of workforce, great environmental conditions, but important legacies are being left behind, forgotten.”

However, with the pro-active attitudes of some leaders in the real defense of the breeders’ interests, a prosperous future is foreseen. For Nilson, the formula for success is simple: “valuing the national market, from horses, riders to all the professionals involved and, above all, the sponsor, who must always be the star of our events.”

In addition, as for any other breeder, there are difficult times in the sport, especially when one of the horses gets injured or has any illness. “We are very connected to the well-being of the animal, and we go to great lengths to see them happy and having fun in competitions. We have, for example, a 35-year-old mare, that is taken care of with the utmost affection, love and attention, like the other animals that live in our pastures / stables.”

The Search for Excellence through Best Practices

The challenges and difficulties encountered are overcome through the use of the best practices from different areas of knowledge by Nilson and his siblings, Edson and Neide, in the management of Haras Rosa Mystica. As a result of the continuous search for excellence and improvement, victories and great results have occurred naturally. Using the best lineages in the world and always avoiding any kind of inbreeding, they look for stallions and mares that can add to the genetic evolution of the breed and their stables’ string of horses. “We try not to maintain a single crossing line. The more heterogeneous, the more chances of adding genetic value to the individual”, adds Nilson.

“We always maintain the line of great breeding stallions: Chacco-Blue, Zirocco Blue, Galoubet, Almè, Capitol, Landgraf, Cor de La Bryere, Nimmerdor, Lord, Voltaire, Quidam de Revel, Stakkato, among others. We always choose according to the morphology of each individual and potential technical skills. Some breeders, even in central Europe, claim to use software to define the best crossings”, adds Nilson, being skeptical.” In my view this is just a marketing stunt, as it would be impossible to guarantee such a result without complete genetic mapping and sequencing. Our main family business is software development and I can guarantee that unfortunately there are many deceivers in our market.”

Believing that any investment in management and nutrition is essential for the development of a high-performance athlete, the care with these aspects is total in animals raised by the family. “We always try to provide the best, in order to develop the genetics of the future foal at its maximum potential, thus favoring sports practice at its maximum capacity. We respect and analyze each individual, a truly manual work. We have expert veterinarians and grooms, who carefully accompany the mares in their gestational phase, in the foal’s birth, in postpartum care, paying attention to the foal’s development day by day, in order to keep them physically and mentally healthy. Since the taming phase, we have highly qualified professionals so that we can deliver the foals sold or not for the sport with their maximum athletic and mental development,” says Nilson. “It is important to mention that, fortunately, we face a great off-season, since we sell practically all of our products over the age of one.”

Haras Rosa Mystica also plays an important role in encouraging equestrian sports in Brazil through partnership with its clients, taking on a public commitment to encourage all products with the suffix Mystic Rose, by providing subsidized entry fees in state and national championships, and the Brazilian Sport Horse National Festival. “In addition, we assist clients who use the stallions we represent in our breeding center, in the sale of their products. Our commitment to our investors is to ensure that they always make a good deal. For example, we never “defend” horses at auctions, giving priority to transparency and belief in the market. We believe in our products and are always close to our partners, in order for us, together, to strengthen the Mystic Rose brand in the world.”

Jumping for Success

Great results have been achieved nationally and internationally. The first big victory occurred in the Brazilian Qualifier for the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses – Five Year-Olds, reaching the end of the competition in Lanaken (Belgium) and later in several national and state championships for young horses, including the second championship in the São Paulo Cup and the CSI Indoor that took place at Sociedade Hípica Paulista (SHP). The expansion process of the business occurred naturally and and victories and great placings in: Spruce Meadows in Canada, Monterrey in Mexico, in Wellington, competing in the renowned Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) and at Palm Beach Masters, as well as competitions in Kentucky, at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in North Carolina, as well as Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, all in the USA.

For Nilson, one feat stands out before all others, causing great emotion, the achievement of having two mares in the grand final of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima in Peru. “It was indescribable, the real fulfillment of a dream, which motivated us to move forward into thinking about the Olympic Games”, says the breeder.

Magnolia Mystic Rose and Zambia Mystic Rose are the two main stars amongst the great animals bred and developed by Haras Rosa Mystica. The two have always had the best that can be offered to a high-performance horse, and that’s why they have enormous toughness, excellent health and an incredible desire to jump. As is characteristic of farm animals of the Leite family and due to the factors already mentioned, the mares are incredibly tough, charismatic and willful. “They have an incredible will and determination, which always made me believe in their potential”, guarantees Nilson.

Magnolia Mystic Rose traveled from the USA and to Europe in mid-July to compete in the observatory tests for the formation of Team Brazil at the Tokyo Olympic Games, postponed to 2021, with the renowned rider Eduardo Menezes (BRA). Zambia Mystic Rose, on the other hand, has been in Europe since the beginning of the year under the saddle of the prestigious young rider, Felipe Amaral (BRA), restarting the season and also with chances of disputing the vacancy. Nilson is hopeful about Zambia too. “She has always been a very winning mare, and we are very hopeful of great results in Europe in the second half of 2020.”

Believing & Accomplishing

According to the Haras Rosa Mystica‘s breeder, it is important to believe in what you do, focusing on always doing the best for the animals, always thinking about their well-being and health. “It is incredible how these animals give us back everything we invest in them. And mainly to define if you are going to follow equestrian sports as a hobby or business. I see many people being disappointed for not positioning themselves objectively”, says Nilson

Em tempos de grandes dificuldades e desafios, o Haras Rosa Mystica tem enxergado oportunidades, se destacando a nível internacional ao manter investimentos com crescimento na exportação de animais exclusivos, principalmente para os Estados Unidos. Nilson Leite, titular do haras ao lado de seus irmãos Edson, Neide e Vânia, gentilmente falou conosco sobre a paixão da família Leite pelos cavalos e sobre a história de sucesso do Haras Rosa Mystica.

A Paixão pelos Cavalos 

Nilson nos conta que a família Leite iniciou as atividades no hipismo há 25 anos. Descendente de camponeses, e apesar de terem nascidos na metrópole São Paulo, os  irmãos Leite sempre passavam as férias na fazenda do avô materno, onde montavam cavalos de passeio. Posteriormente, tiveram aulas de equitação, e mais tarde com a aposentadoria do pai e decisão de ir morar no campo, a família inteira se uniu para criação de cavalos de esporte de alta performance, nascendo então o Haras Rosa Mystica.

A primeira grande conquista ocorreu com Calinka GV Mystic Rose, vencedora em 2005 da seletiva para o Mundial de Cavalos Novos, categoria 5 anos, que acontece em Lanaken, Bélgica. Foi a primeira grande experiência internacional para o haras, em parceria com o cavaleiro André Luiz Martins dos Santos. “Foi realmente instigador e nos deu a certeza de que poderíamos chegar no alto nível, competindo de igual para igual com o mundo. Passamos não só a acreditar, mas a ter certeza de que podíamos criar cavalos de alta performance, em condições de competir com os melhores criadores do mundo,” relata Nilson.

Brasileiro de Hipismo – Saltando Obstáculos e Desafios através de Excelência

No haras do interior de São Paulo, a família Leite cria cavalos do Studbook Brasileiro de Hipismo (BH), raça ainda em formação, pequena, mas que conta com criadores estudiosos, apaixonados e ávidos por resultados. Nilson relata que os criadores da raça BH estão atentos ao que há de melhor em genética e manejo ao redor do mundo, e procuram encurtar caminhos, não cometendo erros de outros studbooks. “A criação tem despontado como de maneira artesanal, privilegiando qualidade e não quantidade, e os resultados são realmente incríveis. Os cavalos BH se destacam não somente na modalidade Salto mas também no Adestramento e Concurso Completo de Equitação”, destaca Nilson.

O esporte no Brasil carece de investimentos. Infelizmente não é muito interessante ter um cavalo de Grande Prêmio disputando provas no Brasil. Os prêmios são muito baixos, a maioria das vezes não pagando sequer as despesas do animal. No entanto, para que haja uma evolução, é necessário maior apoio e investimento das empresas, e de acordo com o gestor do renomado haras, isso só ocorrerá quando patrocinador for visto como um investidor e não um doador. “O patrocinador espera e necessita do um retorno sobre o investimento realizado, e para isso temos que procurar o que podemos entregar como contrapartida. Temos pouco público, pouca visibilidade e, portanto, pouco investimento. Teremos que utilizar uma inteligência de mercado muito atrevida que possa romper essas barreiras e entregar ao nosso investidor um resultado que o atraia e o fidelize.”

A barreira sanitária devido ao mormo é outro fator desestimulante, que deixa isolados os criadores da raça, como uma ilha no cenário mundial. A dificuldade de se exportar um animal hoje é muito grande, gerando um esforço desnecessário. Para Nilson, “falta planejamento de marketing para alavancagem de dos produtos BH na América, e a percebe-se ausência de autovalorização. “No Brasil, há ótima mão de obra, ótimas condições ambientais, mas legados importantes estão sendo deixados de lado, esquecidos.”

No entanto, com atitudes pró-ativas de alguns dirigentes na real defesa dos interesses dos criadores, deslumbra-se um futuro próspero. Para Nilson, a fórmula do sucesso é simples: “valorizar o mercado nacional, desde cavalos, cavaleiros a todos os profissionais envolvidos e, principalmente, o patrocinador, que deve ser sempre a estrela de nossos eventos.”

Além disso, como para qualquer outro criador, há momentos difíceis no esporte, especialmente quando um dos cavalos se machuca ou apresenta qualquer enfermidade. “Somos muito ligados ao bem estar do animal, e não medimos esforços para vê-los felizes e se divertindo nas competições. Temos, por exemplo, uma égua de 35 anos, cuidada com o maior carinho, amor e atenção, a exemplo de um dos animais que vivem em nossas pastagens/cocheiras.”

Busca pela Excelência através de Melhores Práticas 

Os desafios e dificuldades encontrados são superados mediante do emprego das melhores práticas de diferentes áreas de conhecimento por parte de Nilson e seus irmãos, Edson e Neide, na gestão do Haras Rosa Mystica. Como consequência da busca contínua pela excelência e aprimoramento, as vitórias e grandes resultados têm ocorrido naturalmente. Utilizando as melhores linhagens do mundo e evitando sempre qualquer tipo de consanguinidade, eles procuram garanhões e éguas que possam agregar na evolução genética da raça e do plantel do haras. “Buscamos não manter uma única linha de cruzamento. Quanto mais heterogêneo mais chances de agregar valor genético ao indivíduo”, destaca Nilson.

“Sempre mantemos a linha dos grandes chefes de raça: Chacco Blue, Zirocco Blue, Galoubet, Almè, Capitol, Landgraf, Cor de La Bryere, Nimmerdor, Lord, Voltaire, Quidam de Revel, Stakkato, dentre outros. Escolhemos sempre de acordo com a morfologia de cada indivíduo e potenciais habilidades técnicas.  Alguns criadores, até mesmo centrais da Europa, alegam utilizar software para definir os melhores cruzamentos”, acrescenta Nilson, fazendo uma ressalva. “A meu ver isso não passa de jogada de marketing, pois seria impossível garantir tal resultado sem um mapeamento e sequenciamento genético completo. Nosso principal negócio familiar é o desenvolvimento de software e posso garantir que infelizmente há muitos enganadores em nosso mercado.”

Acreditando que todo investimento em manejo e nutrição é essencial para o desenvolvimento de um atleta de alta performance, o cuidado com esses aspectos é total nos animais criados pela família. “Procuramos sempre fornecer o melhor, de forma a desenvolver a genética do futuro potro em seu máximo potencial, favorecendo assim a prática esportiva em sua capacidade máxima. Respeitamos e analisamos cada indivíduo, um trabalho verdadeiramente manual. Temos veterinários e tratadores de excelência, que cuidadosamente acompanham as éguas em sua fase gestacional, no nascimento do potro, nos cuidados pós-parto, na atenção ao desenvolvimento do potro dia a dia, de forma a mantê-los sempre saudáveis física e mentalmente. Desde a fase de doma contamos com profissionais altamente qualificados para que possamos entregar os potros vendidos ou não para o esporte com seu máximo desenvolvimento atlético e mental”, discorre Nilson. “Importante citar que, felizmente, enfrentamos uma grande entressafra, já que vendemos praticamente todos nossos produtos acima de um ano de idade.”

Magnólia Mystic Rose e Zâmbia Mystic Rose são as duas principais estrelas entre os grandes animais criados e desenvolvidos pelo Haras Rosa Mystica. As duas sempre tiveram o que de melhor possa se oferecer a um animal de alta performance e, por isso. apresentam enorme rusticidade, excelente saúde e uma vontade incrível de saltar. Como é característico nos animais de criação da família Leite e devido aos fatores já mencionados, as éguas são incrivelmente francas, carismáticas e voluntariosas. “Elas possuem uma vontade e garra incríveis, que sempre me fizeram acreditar em seu potencial”, garante Nilson.

Magnólia Mystic Rose seguiu dos EUA e para Europa em meados de julho para disputar as provas observatórias para formação do Time Brasil nos Jogos Olímpicos Tokyo, postergados para 2021, com o renomado cavaleiro Eduardo Menezes (BRA). Já Zâmbia Mystic Rose está na Europa desde o início do ano sob a sela do prestigiado e jovem cavaleiro Felipe Amaral (BRA),  reiniciando a temporada e igualmente com chances da disputa da vaga. Nilson é esperançoso quanto a Zâmbia também. “Ela sempre foi uma égua muito vencedora, e temos muita esperança de ótimos resultados na Europa nesse segundo semestre de 2020.”

De acordo com o idealizador do Haras Rosa Mystica, é importante acreditar naquilo que se faz, focando em se fazer sempre o melhor para o animal, sempre pensar em seu bem estar e sua saúde. “É incrível como esses animais nos devolvem tudo aquilo que depositamos neles. E principalmente definir se vai encarar o hipismo como um hobby ou negócio. Vejo muitos se decepcionando por não se posicionarem objetivamente”, afirma Nilson.
