Quarteira, Faro, Portugal – July 25, 2020 – Spain and Portugal renewed their Iberian rivalry in the ring of the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre on Saturday while competitors from both countries competed in the €25,400 Grand Prix CSI 2*.
Spain came out on top with Mariano Martinez Bastida (ESP) and Belano Vd Wijnhoeve Z claiming top honors. The Spanish rider guided the 11-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding (Berlin x Darco) towards the fastest jump-off time among only three combinations that registered a double clear, going through the final timers in 38.01 seconds.
João Marquilhas (POR) and Glamour ES (Echo Vant Spieveld x Calvados) were just four-tenths of a second slower than the eventual winners, finishing in second place in 38.42 seconds.
Duarte Seabra (POR) and Twix van Overis Z (Toulon x Diamant de Semilly) completed the podium in 39.56 seconds.
