Steve Guerdat & Victorio des Frotards Gallop to Win $200,000 Longines Grand Prix of Basel 5*

Basel, Switzerland – January 10, 2020 – Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Victorio des Frotards claimed victory in the second most important class during the Longines CSI Basel 5*-W, earning the blue ribbon in the CHF $200,000 Longines Grand Prix of Basel 5*.

Swiss spectators once again witnessed the seesaw battle of the former number one and currently second-ranked rider in the Longines FEI Jumping World Ranking battle it out against fellow countryman and current leader Martin Fuchs (SUI), as the two advanced to the jump-off along with seven other combinations.

Guerdat rode the 11-year-old chestnut Selle Français gelding (Barbarian x Prince Ig’or) to victory, overcoming all the 1.55m maximum-height obstacles before tipping the timers in 36.98 seconds.

Denis Lynch (IRL) had another solid performance aboard GC Chopin’s Bushi (Contendro II x Nairobi), this time finishing second with no penalties and a time of 39.42 seconds in the tiebreaker.

Niels Bruynseels (BEL) and Ilusionata van’t Meulenhof (Lord Z x Carthago) registered a double clear too, climbing the third spot on the podium due to their jump-off time of 40.84 seconds.
